  • The Wine:

A lusty red wine made from Cynthiana (a.k.a. "Norton" or "Cabernet of the Ozarks") grapes.  Aged primarily in American oak barrels.  [no residual sugar]

    The Grape:

Cynthiana: (sin-thee-AN-uh) A native American grape that produces a rich, full-bodied red wine with character that is often compared with Cabernet Sauvignon. Ever since a Missouri Cynthiana won the First Medal of Merit at the Vienna World Exposition of 1873, this varietal has repeatedly received rapturous reviews from red wine lovers. Brooding dark color accompanied by a bouquet of spicy oak, black cherry, vanilla, and hints of coffee and cocoa. These flavors complement red meats and other richer foods. Featuring the bright, crisp, citrusy fruit character of the Seyval grape, this wine is often compared with less grassy versions of Sauvignon Blanc.  Pairs well with seafood and light cheeses. [0.0% residual sugar]
  • The Wine:

A dry Vignoles that is actually dry (less than 1 gram of sugar per liter, perceptibly drier than so-called "dry" Vignoles from other producers that often have more than 5 times the amount of sugar).  Aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve the grape’s distinctive pineapple character.  The label features a painting of our vineyard by famed local landscape artist Billyo O'Donnell.  [residual sugar: less than 0.1%]

    The Grape:

Vignoles (pronounced veen-YOLE) produces moderate-sized, compact clusters, and in Missouri it is typically picked near the end of August or early September.  This grape produces a wine that has a luscious floral aroma and fruity flavors of pineapple, pears, and apricot. Ravat 51 is the original name of the Vignoles grape. It was bred in France around 1930 by J.F. Ravat, and was brought to the U.S. in 1949. As of 2011, it was the second most widely planted wine grape in Missouri. Blumenhof began growing Vignoles in 1983 at our main vineyard in Treloar, Missouri.  In 1987 we planted an additional acre in Dutzow (the vines closest to the winery).  We currently have 4 acres of Vignoles planted in our vineyards.
